Kim,
when I was young, we used to call this type of dog a 'sausage' dog because of thse shape of the body. I'm afraid I can't tell you the name of the breed, but it'll be easy enough to find on google if you want to look. It may not even be a 'pure' breed at all and in fact may be a 'cross' breed: a mixture between two or more breeds.
